Presidential candidate Sen. Grace Poe won one of the cases filed against her at the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) but some political personalities were not satisfied with the decision. One of the vocal politicians who expressed his sentiments is no other than Mayor Rodrigo Duterte who believes that Sen. Grace Poe is not a natural born Filipino.
Due to the statement made by Mayor Duterte, the camp of presidential aspirant Sen. Grace Poe fires back and hopes that Mayor Duterte would come to appreciate the wisdom of the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) decision that ruled she is a natural-born Filipino citizen.
Mayor Duterte stated earlier that he was disappointed at the decision of the SET and believed that Sen. Grace Poe was not a natural-born Filipno. The SET decision also prompted Mayor Dutete to announced that he is now open to run for President of the Philippines.
Meanwhile, Sen. Grace Poe through her spokesperson, Valenzuela Mayor Rex Gatchalian, said that the SET decision upholds the rights of the marginalized, which include foundlings like Sen. Grace Poe.
Mayor Gatchalian was quoted as saying “The SET decision enshrined the protection of rights of foundlings, hence we believe Mayor Duterte will appreciate the merits of the decision,” he stated.
The spokesperson of Sen. Grace Poe also added that the senator shared Duterte’s mind-set of protecting those who could not protect themselves.
