Binibining Pilipinas Cebu showcased a different national costume
The national costume competition of Binibining Pilipinas was held on May 18 and Miss Cebu changed her controversial outfit.
Prior to the competition, photos surfaced that Miss Cebu Joy Dacoron was wearing a costume similar to the Sto. Niño de Cebu. The costume is complete with accessories like the scepter and crown, as well as her hair was made to look like it.
This did not sit well with netizens. Miss Cebu received negative reactions online. Following the criticism she received, Joy apologized.
On Thursday, Binibining Pilipinas Cebu showcased a different costume during the national costume presentation, based on the article in PEP. Joy asked help from Cavite-based fashion designer Markie Cadag to revise her costume.
Markie shared that he knew Joy accidentally. His muse was not available for the Santacruzan in Market! Market! in Taguig last May 6. “She became my replacement muse when my original muse backed out on me,” the designer said.
Markie also revealed that Joy just message her the other night asking him if he had a festival costume on hand that she can wear. Fortunately, Markie had a Sinag Filipiniana gown on hand. The designer modified it.
He said that he did not hesitate to help Miss Cebu because she helped him first. Markie said that Joy deserves all the help that she needs. Miss Cebu still used the cape portion of her original costume.
“Yung red cape at train ng original Sto. Niño de Cebu national costume, ginamit pa rin ni Joy. She didn’t want it to be wasted kaya ginawan ng paraan para ma-incorporate pa rin sa ensemble,” the designer said.
Joy was the one who assembled the two costumes together. Markie said that he is happy to help Binibining Pilipinas Cebu.
