Ogie Diaz decided to stop endorsing online gambling
Talent manager and vlogger Ogie Diaz admitted feeling guilty about having endorsed online gambling.
These past years, the popularity of online gambling skyrocketed with the help of celebrity endorsers. However, celebrities who endorse online gambling are currently under intense scrutiny from netizens, as the practice has ruined many lives.
Some of these celebrities had been endorsing such platforms for a long time without drawing much attention, unlike these recent months, when the issue became a trending topic, especially after the government called them out and moved to ban the practice.
Ogie Diaz was one of those who admitted guilt, having previously served as an endorser for online gambling. He shared about this on the “Showbiz Update” vlog alongside Mama Loi, Tamerlane Mopia, Ate Cora, and Ate Mrena, based on the article in Bandera.
“Sa totoo lang ako rin naman ay nakapag-endorse rin at guilty ako diyan dahil nakapag-endorse ako once upon a time pero mula noon ayoko na,” he said.
He said that it is difficult to endorse something that he is not personally using, but he will make people believe that he is doing this and is excited about this.
“Sa totoo lang karamihan ng mga artistang kinuhang endorser hindi naman naglalaro, hindi naman naka-immerse sa game,” the talent manager-vlogger revealed.
Ogie’s co-host Mama Loi, commented that since the talent manager is popular, his supporters and fans were encouraged to engage in online gambling.
Then, the talent manager revealed that he was once again offered the chance to be an endorser for the said online gambling platform, but he declined.
“Kasi marami kang nahihikayat na naniniwala sa ‘yo na, ‘si Ogie naman ang nag-endorse panatag naman loob ko baka manalo,’ yan puwedeng ikahirap ‘yun,” he said.
He also pointed out that he is not really into gambling. Then, the names of celebrities who endorsed online gambling were mentioned such as Vice Ganda, Bea Alonzo at Andrea Brillantes, Piolo Pascual at Maine Mendoza, Kim Chiu, Alden Richards, Vic Sotto, and Heaven Peralejo.
“Bumaba ba ang tingin natin sa kanila dahil nag-endorso sila ng online gambling? Kung bumaba choice n’yo ‘yun, kung wala naman kayong pakels (pakialam) wala naman merito ‘yun, e, di okay,” Ogie Diaz said.
