Bloodletting Mission Turns Tragic After Fatal Road Accident in San Carlos City
SAN CARLOS CITY – A tragic road accident claimed the life of a barangay health aide and left ten others injured following a collision between two trucks in San Carlos City on Friday morning, April 10.
The incident occurred around 9:00 AM along the Ecotranslink Highway in Sitio Punod, Barangay Rizal. Initial reports revealed that a Hino truck, driven by a 49-year-old man from Escalante City, was heading downhill when it suddenly collided head-on with a canter truck climbing the road. The canter truck was being operated by a resident of San Carlos City.
The lone fatality was identified as Perfecto “Fecto” Magbanua, 59, a dedicated Barangay Health Worker and job order personnel under the San Carlos City Health Office. He suffered a severe open skull injury that led to his death.

Several passengers aboard the canter truck were also hurt. They were reportedly medical personnel en route to a scheduled bloodletting activity in Barangay Quezon when the crash occurred. Among those injured was Dr. Minerva Alcarde, 80, the City Health Officer, who sustained a foot laceration and a possible spinal injury. Another victim, Marian Garcis, 49, suffered head lacerations along with swelling.
Other members of the City Health Office and accompanying medical staff experienced various injuries, including fractures, cuts, and abrasions. Meanwhile, the driver and helper of the Hino truck were also reported to have sustained injuries from the collision.
Joe Recalex Alingasa, head of the San Carlos City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), confirmed that the victims were part of a health team heading to conduct a community mission.

Based on triage assessments, two of the injured were classified as serious cases under the Yellow Tag category, while eight others were tagged Green, indicating minor to moderate injuries. All victims were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for immediate medical attention.
Authorities from the Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) have launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of the accident and identify who may be held responsible.
