Undefeated Legend Floyd Mayweather Set to Return to Professional Boxing

Floyd Mayweather Shocks Boxing World w/ Stunning Comeback Announcement

FLOYD MAYWEATHER – Just when fans thought his career was sealed in perfection, Floyd Mayweather drops a bombshell that could shake the boxing world once again.

Floyd Mayweather is officially stepping back into the professional boxing spotlight. The 48-year-old boxing icon announced Friday (Saturday, Manila time) that he is coming out of retirement and will return to professional boxing following his scheduled exhibition fight with Mike Tyson this spring.

The former multi-weight world champion originally retired in 2017 with an immaculate record of 50 wins and no losses. Although he has remained active in the sport through various exhibition matches, this upcoming move signals a return to official professional competition.

“I still have what it takes to set more records in the sport of boxing,” Mayweather said in a statement to AFP.

“From my upcoming Mike Tyson event to my next professional fight afterwards — no one will generate a bigger gate, have a larger global broadcast audience and generate more money with each event — then (sic) my events.”

Mayweather’s confidence has always been a defining trait throughout his storied career. However, despite his unmatched success inside the ring, he has long been a polarising figure. Critics often pointed to what they described as an overly defensive boxing style, while others accused him of avoiding the most dangerous opponents to preserve his flawless record.

Outside the ring, controversy has also followed him. Mayweather served time in prison related to one of several domestic violence incidents, which further fueled debate about his legacy.

Still, his discipline, elite conditioning, ring intelligence, and unmatched athleticism earned admiration from fellow fighters and boxing purists alike.

Mayweather’s last professional bout was in 2017 against UFC star Conor McGregor. Since then, he has participated in exhibition contests, including a win over John Gotti III in Mexico in August 2024, along with appearances against reality television personalities and YouTube fighters.

He has now signed an exclusive agreement with promoter CSI Sports/Fight Sports, set to begin after his Tyson exhibition.

Boxing outlet Ring Magazine reported that the Mayweather-Tyson exhibition could take place on April 25 in the Congo, though no official confirmation has been made regarding the date or venue.

Tyson, 59, last fought in November 2024 in Texas, suffering a one-sided defeat to YouTuber-turned-prizefighter Jake Paul. The Netflix-backed event drew approximately 70,000 live spectators, with millions more watching worldwide.

With Mayweather’s return looming, the boxing world once again braces for another headline-grabbing chapter.
