Derek Ramsay Breaks Silence on Why He Finally Returned to Showbiz
DEREK RAMSAY – Actor Derek Ramsay’s comeback to acting was not part of the plan, but life’s sudden changes pushed the actor to face the cameras once more.
Derek Ramsay has opened up about his emotional and professional journey as he makes his return to showbiz after several years of lying low. In an interview with his vlogger friend Morly Alinio, Derek candidly shared how life’s unexpected turns led him back to acting, despite once being certain he had already closed that chapter of his life.
“TALAGANG ayoko na talaga, that was not an easy decision, life can change so quick overnight,” Derek said at the start of the conversation. He was referring to his decision to return to acting through an upcoming TV series on TV5, which has already held a story conference.

Derek Ramsay previously expressed that he was ready to quit acting for good, choosing instead to focus on married life with then-wife Ellen Adarna and their daughter, Baby Liana or Lili, who is now one year old. However, circumstances changed when Derek and Ellen eventually separated and decided to co-parent their child.
Reflecting on his hiatus, Derek said, “Life can change so quick overnight tumigil ako before pandemic, six years, don’t get me wrong. Mahal ko ang craft ko, pero I was excited with this chapter of my life… but you know like I said, life can change so quick overnight.” After going through what he described as a difficult storm, Derek saw the new project as a sign. “Then bigla akong binigyan ni Lord ng isa pang project. I just took it as a sign that I should take it,” he added.
Accepting the role was not easy, but after praying and talking to director Mike Tuviera, he finally agreed. Derek admitted that during the story conference, he felt overwhelmed. “Parang (feeling) ko ‘yung first day ko na maging artista. Sobrang nine-nerbyos ako,” he recalled, explaining how unfamiliar it felt to face fellow actors, reporters, and cameras again.
This time, Derek is taking on a villain role in the TV5 series, something he found refreshing after years of romantic and dramatic roles. The project is inspired by the film “The Kingdom,” and although he previously played an antagonist in “The Janitor” in 2014, this new role reignited his passion for acting.

Beyond his career, Derek also spoke about personal challenges, including his father’s stage 4 prostate cancer diagnosis and his mother Remedios’ health issues. Despite everything, Derek shared that he is now in a better place. “I’m at peace… Nag focus ako to take care of myself again,” he said.
As Derek prepares to fully return to the spotlight, he remains focused on healing, family, and embracing life’s changes, no matter how sudden they may be.
