John Prats Finally Explains Why He’s Done w/ Acting
JOHN PRATS – Actor-turned-director John Prats may have grown up in front of the camera, but he now says his heart belongs entirely behind the scenes.
John Prats has made it clear that returning to acting is no longer part of his plans, as he feels he has already found his true purpose behind the scenes. Once a familiar face on television since his childhood days on Ang TV, Prats has gradually stepped away from the spotlight to build a fulfilling career as a concert director, one that he says brings him genuine happiness and meaning.
Now 41, Prats has become one of the country’s most sought-after concert directors, working with some of the biggest names in OPM. From touring the world with TJ Monterde and KZ Tandingan for their successful Sarili Nating Mundo concert series to leading major productions such as the upcoming Champions of the Heart Valentine’s concert, his creative focus has fully shifted away from acting.
Asked directly if he still has any desire to return on camera, John Prats was candid in admitting that acting no longer excites him the way directing does. He shared that he recently had a conversation with actor Coco Martin about the possibility of going back to acting, but his answer remained firm. He explained that he is happy where he is now and deeply fulfilled by the purpose he has found.
For Prats, directing is no longer just work; it is a calling. He emphasized that what he does now is selfless, as the spotlight is no longer on him but on the artists, the audience, and the overall experience. Seeing performers shine onstage, hearing applause, and witnessing emotional reactions from the crowd give him a sense of joy that acting never matched in the same way.
John Prats described the feeling as “addictive,” not because of fame or financial reward, but because of the impact his work creates. According to Prats, directing allows him to serve something bigger than himself, making each project more meaningful. This mindset is also why he no longer sees his work as mere “raket” or side jobs, but as his life’s mission.
Prats’ journey from actor to director may have been unexpected, but it has led him to clarity. While he remains grateful for his roots in acting, he believes that chapter has already closed. With a full heart and a clear sense of direction, John Prats is content staying behind the camera, where he believes he truly belongs.
