Anthony Taberna shared that Sarah Discaya asked for an interview
Veteran journalist Anthony Taberna revealed that he refused to interview businesswoman Sarah Discaya, who is now involved in anomalous flood control projects.
Sarah and her husband, Curlee Discaya, were featured in the YouTube channels of veteran journalists Korina Sanchez and Julius Babao. In these interviews, they shared the “rags-to-riches” story, showcased the properties they and businesses they own, and their collection of luxury cars.
This became controversial when Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto called out the veteran journalists for those interviews, which supposedly involved monetary favors. The interviews happened a few months before the 2025 elections. Sarah Discaya ran for mayor in Pasig City.
Reportedly, Kapamilya veteran journalist Karen Davila also received an offer from the Discaya couple to be featured on her YouTube channel. However, allegedly, Karen refused to have the Discaya couple in her vlog.
In a recent event, based on the article in Bandera, Anthony Taberna, also known as Ka Tunying, shared that he has been receiving offers to enter politics since 2007. However, the veteran journalist had no plans to be in the political arena.
He said that he preferred to focus on his businesses rather than be a politician. Ka Tunying also has his YouTube channel, in which she features personalities and how they grew their businesses.
The veteran journalist said that he would send letters to people he wanted to interview, but this was not the case with Sarah Discaya. He said that the controversial contractor was the one who offered to be interviewed.
“Muntik ko nang ma-interview kasi may mga naglalako diyan nu’ng bago mag-eleksyon, sabi ko (iminuwestra sa kamay na-cut). Ang mga iniinterbyu ko kasi ay mga businessmen na successful at ako ang lumalapit, ako ang sumusulat sa kanila para ma-interview ko sila. Pero ito (Discaya) sila ang lumalapit sa akin through intermediary, so, iba ‘yun,” he said.
Anthony Taberna also said that one of the reasons why he did not say yes to Sarah Discaya was that she was already having “bakbakan” with Mayor Vico at that time. “Hindi naman ganyan ‘yung ating mga pine-feature kaya mabuti na lang. Isipin mo kung na-interview ko ‘yun ay malamang may 10 milyon nga ako ngayon?” he added.
