Alice Guo’s First 60 Days in Prison: What the Public Needs to Know
ALICE GUO – The dramatic fall of former mayor Alice Guo continues as she undergoes the rigorous intake process before serving her life sentence at the CIW.
Former Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo is set to begin her life term at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City after the Pasig City Regional Trial Court Branch 167 issued a new order. In its November 27 directive, the court approved the commitment of Guo and her co-accused, Jaimielyn Santos Cruz—identified as the alleged president of Zun Yuan Technology Inc. (ZYTI)—and Rachelle Joan Malonzo Carreon.
Their commitment follows their conviction for qualified trafficking in persons, a charge connected to unlawful operations involving a Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) complex in Bamban. The case drew widespread public attention and intensified discussions about the rising number of POGO-related offenses and the potential involvement of local officials in these activities.
Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director Gregorio Catapang Jr. stated on November 21 that “security measures are being enhanced” at the CIW as preparations continue for Guo’s detention. He also reassured the public that strict protocols are in place to preserve order and protect all persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) inside the facility.
Before transferring to the women’s correctional institution, Guo is required to undergo the usual admission procedures at the BuCor’s Reception and Diagnostic Center (RDC). This includes validating her records and checking her personal items, steps meant to ensure compliance with institutional guidelines and to authenticate the court documents.
Guo will also complete a mandatory five-day quarantine period, during which she will receive a full medical assessment. Afterward, she will move to the RDC’s standard dormitory to undergo the 60-day evaluation phase. This stage includes orientation activities, psychological and physical examinations, and screenings that will determine her proper security classification.
After finishing the two-month RDC process, Guo will be transferred to her assigned dormitory inside the Maximum Security Camp, where inmates serving life imprisonment are held. This final placement marks the beginning of her long-term incarceration under the country’s correctional system.
