In a recent interview, based on the article in ABS-CBN Entertainment, Coco Martin was asked one thing he cannot do. His answer was, “Mag-English.” Then, he laughed.

He admitted that he gets nervous when someone speaks English straight in front of him. When this happens, he is waiting for the conversation to go back to Taglish so that he can keep up.

The actor shared that when he was in school, he struggled with the English subject. He failed multiple times. This was the reason that the actor usually avoids playing affluent characters or “mayaman.”

Coco said that it is because these characters often require speaking in English lines. He would be fixated on perfecting his pronunciation, but he would not be able to embody the needed emotion in the scene.

The actor has learned to laugh about this now. He also recalled that when he was just a newbie in showbiz, he had a guesting on ASAP. It was a struggle for him to communicate at that time. He could not keep up with the teleprompter.

With that, Coco Martin told his manager to enroll him in personality development classes. He was able to learn English and carry himself more confidently. The actor was happy with improvements in his personality and confidence.

However, he was apprehensive because he thought that he might eventually lose his “jologs” or “pang-masa” image.
