Regine Velasquez Breaks Silence: Blames Government for Typhoon Tino Disaster in Cebu
REGINE VELASQUEZ – The heartbreaking impact of Typhoon Tino has sparked an emotional response from singer Regine Velasquez, who lambasted government agencies for their failure to protect the environment and the Filipino people.
Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid unleashed her fury on social media, directing her anger toward several government agencies after the devastation caused by Typhoon Tino, which brought intense flooding and destruction to Cebu and various parts of the Visayas region.
The powerful typhoon resulted in the deaths of nearly 200 individuals, with numerous others reported injured or still missing. The tragic event has once again fueled nationwide anger over environmental abuse and the alleged failure of authorities to adequately prepare for disasters or protect the country’s natural resources.

In an Instagram post, the renowned singer expressed her frustration and disappointment at the continued neglect of the environment. As part of her message, Regine uploaded a video of the late former Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Gina Lopez, a well-known environmental advocate whose firm stance on ecological protection was both celebrated and controversial.
In the clip, Lopez passionately stated, “If you kill the environment, you kill everything. 1/3 of the Filipino depends on our natural resources. Sino ang nagdudusa kapag winawasak ‘yong kalikasan? Sino?! ‘Yong mahihirap!” The former DENR chief remarked in a 2017 press conference after the Commission on Appointments denied her confirmation as Environment Secretary.
Lopez also said, “And whose duty is it to protect the people? It’s the government. And when you make decisions based on business interests, you have shirked your responsibility. You have lost the moral ascendancy to rule the government because, to you, business and money is more important than the welfare of our people.”
Taking inspiration from Lopez’s words, Regine expressed her outrage in a powerful statement: “Sino ba ang nagbigay ng permiso butasin ang ating kabundukan putulin ang mga puno sirain ang karagatan!!!!!! SINO!!!!!! Hindi na natin maibabalik ito sa dating ganda. Sino pa ang magsasalba sa atin pag may bagyo. SINIRA NYO NA LAHAT PARA ANO SA KAYAMANANG HINDI NYO MADADALA SA HUKAY!!!!!!”

Velasquez emphasized that government agencies must be held responsible for their failures and lack of concern for both the environment and the safety of Filipinos.
She ended her message with a fierce statement: “Sa lahat ng sangay ng gobyernong walang malasakit ANG KAKA(P)AL NG MUKHA NYO KAYO ANG MAY KASALANAN SA LAHAT NG NANGYAYARI SA PILIPINO!!!!!!!!!”
Her emotional outburst quickly went viral, striking a chord with many Filipinos who echoed her sentiments about government accountability and the worsening environmental crises in the country.
