How Sam Verzosa Turned Defeat Into Success
SAM VERZOSA – After losing his mayoral bid against Isko Moreno, Sam Verzosa reflects on how the defeat protected him from the controversies shaking the political scene.
TV personality and entrepreneur Sam Verzosa recently looked back on his failed bid for the mayoralty of Manila City, describing it as a “blessing” in disguise. Verzosa shared that he believes the public’s confidence in politicians has waned, especially following corruption controversies involving flood control projects.
Earlier this year, Verzosa vied for Manila’s mayoral seat but was defeated by Isko Moreno. During the 110th anniversary celebration of Maserati on Sunday, the Maserati Philippines president opened up about how his political defeat may have actually shielded him from the controversies currently surrounding local politics.

“Alam mo naman kapag politician ngayon, medyo may konting resentment ang tao. They don’t want to be associated with them, kahit magpa-picture. Ang daming issues, ang daming bashing,” Verzosa said.
He went on to share that many people saw his loss as a form of protection. “Sabi nila, baka inilayo raw ako. Iniba yung path ko. Napakadami pong nagsabi sa akin na, ‘Wow, Sam, parang blessing yan na kahit papaano, kahit hindi ka nanalo, hindi ka inilagay sa mga nangyayari ngayong controversies’,” he added.
Although his political journey did not turn out as planned, Verzosa made it clear that he is not affected by the corruption allegations surrounding politicians. He firmly stated that his wealth was earned through legitimate business efforts. “I have receipts proving I amassed my wealth long before I entered politics,” he stressed.
Formerly a congressman, Verzosa is now dedicating his time and energy to his various business ventures. Among his latest accomplishments is acquiring two exclusive Maserati GranTurismo Folgore units for the Philippine market — the Blu Inchiostro GT110 and Rame Folgore GT110, with only 55 units of each made worldwide.
“We’re so lucky we were able to get two because we’re one of the top sales region in the whole world. Actually, the Philippines is one of the top sa sales sa mga sports car. These cars are handcrafted and designed in Modena, Italy, so konti lang talaga siya,” Verzosa said.

He also introduced Maserati’s newest innovation, saying, “We’ve launched our newest masterpiece from Maserati for our 110th anniversary. It is fully electric.”
For Verzosa, what first appeared to be a political loss has turned into an opportunity for greater success — a reminder that sometimes, setbacks can lead to better paths forward.
