Netizens lauded celebrities who joined the rally for speaking up, and standing for their views and representing the feelings of many Filipinos. However, some netizens criticized celebrities who they expected to use their platforms to encourage more Filipinos to speak.

One of these celebrities was Coco Martin. Fans and supporters expected his presence in the rally, and he did not post anything about it.

In a recent interview, based on the article in Abante, Coco broke his silence on the bashing he received because of his absence during the rally. He stressed that through his teleseryes, he is expressing his thoughts on the social issues.

“Sabi ko nga, kasi ‘yung tao may iba’t ibang paraan ng pakikipaglaban. Hindi ko kailangang pumunta do’n sa kalye para makipagbatuhan at makipagsigawan kasi kung mapapanood mo ‘yung ‘Batang Quiapo’, ‘yon ‘yung ground ko, ‘yon ‘yung playground ko kung paano ko i-educate or makakaambag sa mga Pilipino,” he said.

The actor-director also said that this is his way of imparting his opinions, through storytelling and educating the people on how they should think, to show how corruption is happening in the country, and how the politicians act.

“Sabi ko nga, ‘yung paggawa ng teleserye, sinasalamin natin doon ang totoong buhay, which is sabi ko nga sa pamamagitan nito, sa paggawa halimbawa ng kanta ng ibang composer, doon nila ini-express ‘yung saloobin nila,” he explained.

Coco Martin also said that through his Batang Quiapo series, he is sure that many people are waking up. For him, as a showbiz personality, this is his contribution so that people would know what is happening in society.
