Why Janella Salvador Thinks Being Friends With an Ex Is Complicated

Janella Salvador Reveals Why Reconnecting With an Ex Is Never Easy

JANELLA SALVADOR – Actress Janella Salvador isn’t afraid to speak her mind, especially when it comes to the tricky subject of staying friends with an ex.

Kapamilya star Janella Salvador recently shared her honest thoughts about the idea of being friends again with an ex, something she described as a difficult situation to navigate.

The actress, who headlines the Cinemalaya film Open Endings, sat down for an exclusive interview with PUSH ABS-CBN to talk about her new project. The film follows the lives of four former lovers who unexpectedly reconnect and attempt to rebuild their friendships despite their complicated pasts.

When asked about her take on rekindling bonds with an ex-partner, Janella admitted she has never personally gone through it. “I’ve never experienced that personally. But I think it’s possible for some, maybe. But mahirap siyang pasukin. Kasi syempre, prone ka to dig up many different emotions,” she explained.

The actress was previously in long-term relationships with actors Elmo Magalona and Markus Paterson. She co-parents her son Jude with Markus, but she clarified that she has not experienced rekindling a friendship with an ex herself.

Despite this, Janella said she was able to connect with her role as Charlie in Open Endings. “Honestly, habang nasa set ako nito, ang iniisip ko lang the whole time is, grabe, sobrang na-enjoy ko itong role na ‘to. As in, the whole time, I was just enjoying embodying and being Charlie. Kung gaano siya ka-chaotic, kakalat, kakulit, ka-emotional. Na-enjoy ko kasi medyo wild ride maging si Charlie. It’s been a while since I’ve taken a medyo gano’ng character,” she shared.

Beyond the lighthearted story, the actress emphasized that the movie also sheds light on real-life issues. “Siguro, awareness sa mga pinagdadaanan ng mga babae araw-araw, ‘yung mga pinaglalaban natin. Misogyny, harassment — it happens to women on a daily basis. Sana maging mas aware tayo about it. And huwag matapos mag-speak up,” Janella said.

Janella Salvador also highlighted the value of companionship. “And also, friendship, siguro. The importance of friendship talaga. At the end of the day, kailangan mo ng kaibigan,” she added.

Janella further revealed that she formed strong bonds with her co-stars Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Klea Pineda, and Leanne Mamonong. “Si Jas parehas kaming Aries, Aries Queens! Si Leanne, first film niya ‘to. This is her first acting project. And I think she did good! Si Klea naman, bungisngis yun. Sobrang bungisngis. Lahat pinagtatawanan niya. Ang tawa niya maririnig mo from afar,” she said fondly.
