Cebu’s St. Ignatius Fun Run Sparks Outrage Among Participants
FUN RUN – Social media is buzzing with angry posts as Cebu runners express regret over joining the St. Ignatius Run, which many are now calling a poorly organized and overpriced event.
The St. Ignatius Run held in Cebu recently came under fire after participants took to social media to criticize its expensive registration fees and the lack of adequate support for runners.
Several runners noted the insufficient number of hydration stations and the limited supply of Pocari Sweat during the race, which made it difficult to endure the hot conditions. At the finish line, participants were reportedly given only pandesal and bananas, without the usual finisher shirts or cash prizes for winners—perks commonly expected in running events.

One viral Facebook post harshly called out the organizers, saying, “Hoyyyy St. Ignatius Run, sure mo mao rani inyong gihatag namo? Wa mo gabae? Lamya ni inyong pandesal mga yawa mo…” The rant quickly gained attention, with many runners echoing the same frustrations and admitting they regretted joining this event over other fun runs in Cebu that happened on the same day.
A prominent running group also issued a statement voicing its disappointment with how the event was managed. They emphasized that registration fees cost ₱1,800 for 21 km, ₱1,500 for 16 km, ₱1,200 for 6 km, and ₱1,000 for 3 km—prices deemed too steep considering what participants received in return. The team acknowledged that medals were handed out, but said snacks were scarce and only small portions of Pocari Sweat were provided at the finish line.
The lack of finisher shirts and prize money for podium finishers further fueled dissatisfaction. Though the group sarcastically thanked the organizers for the “wonderful experience,” they hinted their true feelings were far more critical.

Since then, social media has been flooded with negative reactions, with many runners demanding accountability and better standards from organizers. Some even suggested that the incident should push the running community to reassess expectations for future events in Cebu.
What was supposed to be a festive and community-driven fun run has instead sparked an ongoing debate—serving as a cautionary tale on how not to organize a race.
