Chiz Escudero denied his involvement in the flood control project anomaly
Senator Chiz Escudero responded to the corruption accusation against him by former Department of Public Works and Highways Undersecretary Roberto Bernardo.
Escudero is one of the most prominent political figures in the Philippines. With the recent corruption issue in the Philippines, his name became one of the hottest topics online.
During the Senate inquiry on anomalous flood control projects on September 25, Escudero’s name was dragged. Bernardo claimed that he gave a 20 percent kickback to Cherry Mobile owner Maynard Ngu.
It was alleged that the money was for Chiz Escudero. Because of this, the lawmaker received criticism online, including his wife, Queen of Creative Collaborations Heart Evangelista, who is being accused of living a luxury life on the people’s money.
Heart pointed out that she is working hard and she deserves whatever she has now, justifying her lavish lifestyle. The Kapuso star has been partnering with several luxury brands as a global fashion icon. However, she said that she will skip this year’s fashion week because of the current issue in the country.
Following the accusation against Escudero, he released a statement. Based on the report from Abante News, the lawmaker denied the accusations against him.
“Puro talaga senador ang tinuturo?! Nasaan si Zaldy Co? Nasaan si Rep. Martin Romualdez sa lahat ng ito? Nasaan and mga kasabwat nila?” Escudero asked.
Then, he said that based on what the former Usec. Bernardo said, all of them were innocent. “Di naman ata ito kapani-paniwala,” the Senator added.
On the other hand, he said that he will face this fight and will file a necessary complaint against the former undersecretary. Escudeo also mentioned that with his 27 years in public service, this is the first time that his name is being dragged into the corruption issue.
“I believe that when all the facts are revealed, my name and my service will remain untarnished,” he said.
Meanwhile, aside from Escudero, Bernardo also mentioned the names of Senator Nancy Binay and former Senator Bong Revilla as among the alleged politicians who received kickbacks. Revilla has already denied that he has anything to do with the controversy. As of this writing, Binay has yet to release a statement about being dragged into the issue.
