Janella Salvador Calls Out Lesbophobic Remarks Within LGBTQIA+ Community
JANELLA SALVADOR – Actress and singer Janella Salvador did not hold back in calling out what she described as lesbophobic remarks coming from some members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Janella Salvador recently expressed her disappointment over certain attitudes within the LGBTQIA+ community, particularly about lesbophobic remarks made against allies. On Wednesday, September 17, the actress shared her thoughts on her X (formerly Twitter) account, where she noted the irony of such comments coming from a group that also advocates for acceptance and equality.
“It’s bothersome how sometimes those who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community are the ones who come up with the most homophobic (lesbophobic, even) comments,” Salvador wrote.

Lesbophobia refers to the discrimination, prejudice, or hatred directed toward lesbians. Salvador pointed out that while criticism and discourse are welcome, they should not cross into unnecessary attacks based on someone’s personal choices or presentation.
“Criticism and opinions can be thrown without making unnecessary remarks about personal preference, appearance and how people choose to comfortably present themselves. Not to mention those of you who laugh along with the colorist and misogynistic comments,” she added. “Backwards much?”
Her post struck a chord with many online users, who agreed with her observations. Some netizens echoed her sentiments, lamenting that parts of the community tend to “mirror the same hate we’re all fighting against.”

Although Salvador did not explain what prompted her statements, speculation quickly arose that her comments might be connected to recent rumors surrounding her personal life. She has been linked to actress Klea Pineda, her co-star in the film Open Endings. The speculation intensified after Pineda’s breakup with her former partner, Katrice Kierulf, when some people dragged Salvador’s name as a supposed third party.
Both Salvador and Pineda have denied the allegations. The actress also previously addressed the persistent rumors, clarifying that there was no truth to such claims. “Both parties have already answered the question. So kung ‘yun pa rin iniisip niyo, so be it (But if that’s what you still think, so be it),” she said.
Through her statement, Salvador emphasized the importance of respect and accountability—reminding everyone, including allies and community members alike, to avoid perpetuating the same prejudices they collectively fight against.
