Barbie Forteza talked about her “villain” role
Kapuso Primetime Princess Barbie Forteza was given a major movie project through “Kontrabida Academy.”
Barbie has come a long way since she started her career in showbiz as a child star. She was able to establish her name as one of the prominent actresses of her generation.
Aside from the recent hit teleseryes that she did, she was given a chance to star alongside seasoned comedian-actress Eugene Domingo. In Kontrabida Academy, Barbie is able to showcase another side of herself as an actress.
In her previous projects, Barbie Forteza portrayed protagonist roles or the “bida,” who was commonly being mistreated.
For her new movie, she showcased her fiercer side. It is her second time playing a “villain,” based on the article in The Philippine Star. The first villain role she did was when she guested on the series Heartful Café.
Barbie shared that she admires those who played villain roles because it takes courage to step into the role. She also pointed out that kontrabida requires different emotional demands.
“Because it’s not just full of evil, di ba? Siyempre, kailangan meron kang depth and background of why ganun yung character mo,” the actress said. This is the reason why it is admirable to see stars who can take a leap in portraying villain roles.
Barbie Forteza also shared that more than just giving tribute to the iconic kontrabidas in the Philippine entertainment industry, it is like a coming out for her character Gigi, and so it is more personal.
“So, for me, it becomes more personal as to how yung influence ng pagiging kontrabida would somehow influence and change a person like Gigi so as to improve her life in reality,” she said.
The Kapuso actress also mentioned that she was thankful that she was able to attend a masterclass by Ms. Cherie Gil via Zoom during the pandemic. She was able to learn a lot from the late veteran actress.
