Bela Padilla Gets Candid About Living w/ Hypothyroidism
BELA PADILLA – Actress Bela Padilla is shedding light on her health battle, sharing how she overcame hypothyroidism through treatment and lifestyle adjustments.
Bela Padilla recently shared her personal experience with a health issue after being diagnosed with hypothyroidism.
In a conversation with Karen Davila on her YouTube vlog, the actress recalled noticing unusual changes in her body while she was based in London. “I found out that I had a few things while I was in London because I was gaining so much weight without changing my lifestyle, [even] I was working out four times a week,” she said.

Initially, Bela thought her sudden weight gain and physical changes were connected to the grief of losing her father. “Parang I didn’t change anything in my lifestyle but my dad just passed away, so I thought maybe this is just my body reacting to the sadness, and to the stress. But I was like, am I emotionally eating? I’m not naman. Since my dad died, I only had one donut, you know like that’s the only bad thing I had. I was like, what’s happening to my body?” she recalled.
Her concerns were finally answered when she came back to the Philippines and consulted doctors. “I started getting checkups when I came back to the Philippines and then they just saw that my levels were super off. When I came here, I found out that I had my hypothyroidism,” Bela explained.
The Cleveland Clinic defines hypothyroidism as a condition “when your thyroid gland doesn’t make and release enough hormone into your bloodstream. The condition slows down your metabolism, which may make you gain weight unexpectedly or feel tired all the time.”
Bela shared that treatment helped improve her quality of life. “First of all, I started getting more energetic. I felt like the brain fog was slowly slipping away because I got super forgetful,” she noted, describing how her focus gradually returned.

Along with regaining her energy, she also experienced healthy weight loss. “I lost 13 kilos in total, but it took a while, it took six months because I think people only see ‘yung the part when you lost weight,” she shared.
Today, Bela is in better health and hopes that her journey inspires others to pay attention to their bodies and seek medical advice when they sense something is wrong.
