Alex Eala Eyes First WTA 125 Title in Guadalajara Final
ALEX EALA – Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala’s impressive run in Mexico continues as she booked her place in the Guadalajara 125 championship match following a dominant semifinal win.
Alex Eala booked her ticket to the finals of the Guadalajara 125 after defeating American Kyla Day in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, during their semifinal encounter.
The 19-year-old initially stumbled, conceding the first two games of the match. But she quickly recovered, unleashing powerful baseline strokes that left her opponent struggling to respond. Eala then swept six games in a row to clinch the opening set, 6-2.

Building on that momentum, the 2022 US Open girls’ singles champion grabbed an early break in the second set for a 2-0 lead. Day, who once held the 2016 US Open junior title, fought back to even the score at 2-all. Undaunted, Eala regrouped and began striking clean winners off both wings, racing to a 5-2 advantage. Although Day held her serve once more, Eala calmly wrapped up the match at 6-3.
The emphatic victory propelled Eala into the championship round, where she is set to face Hungary’s Panna Udvardy, ranked No. 121 in the world. The two last crossed paths at the Oeiras Ladies Open in Portugal in April, with Udvardy prevailing in two tight sets, 7-6, 6-4, on clay.
This time, however, conditions may favor Eala. The high altitude of Guadalajara makes the ball move quicker through the air, potentially amplifying the aggressive, attacking style that has become her trademark. With her speed, shot-making, and ability to control rallies, Eala will be eager to overturn their previous result.

For the young Filipina, the upcoming final represents more than a chance to avenge a past loss—it is an opportunity to capture her first-ever WTA 125 title and further establish herself as one of the brightest rising stars on the women’s tour. A win would also provide a boost to her world ranking and add another highlight to her promising career.
The championship showdown is scheduled for Saturday evening in Mexico (Sunday morning in Manila), with Filipino supporters eagerly anticipating another inspiring performance from their homegrown champion.
