Calatrava’s Rising Star Charlie Ratcliff Dominates 45kg Division in Bahrain
CHARLIE RATCLIFF – The Philippines once again shone on the global martial arts stage after Calatravanhon athlete Charlie Ratcliff clinched gold in Bahrain.
Calatrava, Negros Occidental, takes pride once again as hometown athlete Charlie Ratcliff secured a gold medal in the 1st Asian Mixed Martial Arts (AMMA) Championship 2025, held in Bahrain from August 27 to 29.
Competing in the 45kg division, Ratcliff emerged as champion in the maiden Asian MMA Youth Championship, which also served as a qualifier for the forthcoming Asian Youth Games. Her success is another testament to the rising prominence of young Filipino fighters on the global martial arts stage.

This latest triumph adds to Ratcliff’s string of victories. In 2024, she dominated the Asian United World Wrestling (UWW) Grappling Gi and No-Gi divisions, earning gold medals in both. That same year, she also showcased her talent at the 2nd Annual Copa Dumau De Jiu-Jitsu, where she impressively claimed a double gold medal.
Martial arts run in the family. Ratcliff is the daughter of Maria Aisa Ratcliff, the first Filipino to win a UWW Gi and No-Gi grappling championship, who hails from Barangay Patun-an, Calatrava. Inspired by her mother’s legacy, Charlie has carved her own path while further elevating her family’s name in international competition.
Representing DEFTAC Negros and guided by Coach Tanil Aposaga, Ratcliff continues to refine her skills and display the discipline and determination that make her a formidable athlete. Her victory in Bahrain is not just a personal achievement but also a source of honor for her hometown and the Philippines.

As her career progresses, Charlie Ratcliff stands out as a rising star whose accomplishments highlight the talent and perseverance of Filipino athletes. Her story serves as proof that with passion, commitment, and strong mentorship, young Filipinos can achieve excellence and bring glory to the nation.
