Sofronio Vasquez was chosen to sing the national anthem at SONA 2025
The Voice USA Season 26 winner Sofronio Vasquez expressed gratitude for being the artist who will perform the Philippine National Anthem at the 4th State of the Nation Address of President Bongbong Marcos.
Almost two weeks ago, it was announced that the internationally known artist will be the one who will perform Lupang Hinirang at SONA 2025.
Singing the national anthem at this kind of historical event is such an honor for Sofronio. In an interview on Sunday, July 27, the singer expressed that he is really grateful for this opportunity.
Based on the article in the Inquirer, Sofronio Vasquez said that he is overwhelmed by the chance given to him to honor the country through his performance.
“I was overwhelmed because it’s a rare chance and it’s an honor to sing in front of the president, just to honor the country, and it’s televised. So all of the people, even the world, will watch this momentous event,” the singer said.
Sofronio, who is now based in the States, really traveled to the Philippines to have this performance. He said that this boosted his self-esteem.
“Personally and professionally, it’s a great honor. It boosts my self-esteem, recognition, and worth as a performer and professional singer,” the singer shared. Sofronio also said that he can technically say that he is now a professional singer because he was invited to sing in front of the President at a historical moment.
“We get to appreciate his work, and it makes me happy. This is not only a reflection of his accomplishments but also a reflection of my accomplishments,” he said.
For Sofronio, the significance of the national anthem is its powerful lyrics, which connect to the Filipino people.
The singer also said that even young kids know the song and, for him, it is a calling to be particular about the emotions. It reflects respect and the simplicity of Filipinos, but they are known for being hardworking and ambitious people.
