Carlo Aquino talked about his role in this new Kapamilya series
Actor Carlo Aquino revealed that it was his choice not to watch the original K-drama series It’s Okay To Not Be Okay.
Carlo has been in the industry since he was just a child. He was known as a child star who was able to pull off dramatic scenes at a young age. Eventually, he became a teen star, then one of the prominent actors of his generation.
Carlo was chosen to portray the role of Matthew “Matmat” Gonzales in the Pinoy adaptation of the hit K-drama series. His character is someone who was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.

Director Mae Cruz Alviar said that Carlo wanted to have his own take when it comes to portraying the role, based on the article in the Inquirer. The actor is aware of how the character received praise.
“He knows that everyone is raving about the performance of the original. And yes, Oh’s performance was powerful. Caloy didn’t want to have some sort of influence or be tasked in copying it,” the director shared. It was said that Carlo wanted to play the character based on his immersion and research to make it realistic.
The actor shared that he had a lot of “pegs” when it comes to portraying his Matmat character. He had an immersion in a school for students with special needs and workshops.
“They made me observe those who are high-functioning and not too much. They made me go through workshops with Ms. Anna Feleo. I also put together the character with Ms. Anna Feleo. I was with the younger version of Matmat because our movements need to be aligned,” Carlo shared.
Carlo Aquino also admitted that at first, he was hesitant to accept this project. He said that he was scared of portraying the character as he was thinking about his “what ifs” and his doubts.
Eventually, he decided to accept the offer to eliminate his doubts. He and Joshua opened up to each other about their experiences. With this, Carlo thought that it would turn out okay. He became more relaxed after that.
