Real Story Behind Angelica Panganiban’s Emotional Theater Journey
ANGELICA PANGANIBAN – Actress Angelica Panganiban’s recent theater performance isn’t just a career milestone—it’s also a powerful tribute to someone close to her heart.
Angelica Panganiban, a prominent actress in the Philippines, recently gained attention on social media after posting a heartfelt message on Instagram. In her post, she opened up about the deeply personal reason behind her decision to take on her first theater role. Known for her decades-long career in the entertainment scene, Angelica revealed that joining Don’t Meow For Me, Catriona was more than a professional milestone—it served as a way for her to process her grief.
She portrayed the character Phoebe in Ryan Machado’s play, which debuted at this year’s Virgin Labfest (VLF). The production was well-received, drawing in both critical praise and support from her fellow celebrities, including Kim Chiu, who was spotted in the audience. However, what truly resonated with the public was Angelica’s emotional explanation for accepting the role.
Reflecting on her career, she shared on Instagram, “32 years na pala ako sa industriya. Pero alam talaga ni Lord kung ano ang laman ng puso mo… Wala pa akong lakas ng loob noon.” She disclosed that although she had been offered stage roles in the past, she didn’t feel ready to accept them at the time.
Her perspective changed after reading the script of Don’t Meow For Me, Catriona. The story’s message spoke to her, especially after the passing of her mother, Annabelle “Ebela” Panganiban, in August 2024. “Mula nang mabasa ko ang dula… Naisip kong baka magamit ko ang materyal para maitawid ko pa ang pagluluksa. Hindi naman ako nagkamali,” she wrote, sharing how the role helped her through her mourning.
In the same post, she expressed newfound admiration for the world of theater and those involved in bringing stage productions to life. “Kasama ng pangarap, materyal, napakahuhusay na bumubuo ng entablado, nagkaroon ako ng bagong respeto sa sining,” she added.
Angelica’s heartfelt revelation touched fans and fellow artists alike, earning praise for her courage in using art as a form of emotional healing and growth.
