John Rendez Reveals Painful Experience at Nora Aunor’s Wake
JOHN RENDEZ – Actor and singer John Rendez revealed that he felt unwelcome during the wake of the late Nora Aunor, which made his grieving process even harder.
In an emotional conversation with seasoned journalist Julius Babao, singer and longtime companion John Rendez opened up about his grief following the passing of National Artist and legendary actress Nora Aunor. He reflected on their final moments together, expressing that he felt out of place during her wake and funeral—a feeling that deepened the sorrow of losing someone who played a significant role in his life.
John shared that he was present at the hospital when Nora took her last breath. He vividly recalled holding her hand, reassuring her that everything would be fine, while she wept. As he sang to her, others including singer Imelda Papin and some of Nora’s children were also there. “They were singing ‘Praise the Lord’ and she was gone,” he remembered.
The suddenness of her death was a shock to John, particularly since they believed her angioplasty would lead to recovery. Although hurt by the apparent exclusion during the memorial, he is choosing to focus on personal growth and drawing closer to God for strength.
“I’m moving on po, I’m trying to stay positive. Dealing with a loss of someone you love is never easy,” John shared.
Having been by Nora’s side for many years—especially during the quieter phases of her career—John’s loyalty and friendship were well known. This made the feeling of being overlooked during her final sendoff even more painful.
Meanwhile, Nora Aunor’s son, Ian de Leon, addressed public curiosity surrounding the actress’s estate. He clarified that the family is responsibly managing legal matters and emphasized that they are working together peacefully to protect and uphold her legacy.
Despite the heartbreak, John remains committed to honoring Nora’s memory with love and respect. He continues to seek comfort in faith as he begins a new chapter of healing and reflection.
