Joel Lamangan Preps Nora Aunor Biopic
JOEL LAMANGAN – Renowned director Joel Lamangan sets the stage for a much-anticipated biopic on the life of Philippine cinema legend Nora Aunor, promising a powerful tribute to her iconic journey.
Director Joel Lamangan has announced his intention to create a biographical film honoring the late legendary actress Nora Aunor. In a heartfelt Facebook post, Lamangan reminisced about his time working with Aunor, whose real name was Nora Cabaltera Villamayor. The two collaborated on several acclaimed films, including The Flor Contemplacion Story, Muling Umawit ang Puso, Bakit May Kahapon Pa?, Sidhi, Hustisya, and Isa Pang Bahaghari.
Lamangan reflected on their working relationship, sharing how they would engage in deep discussions before filming to ensure a shared vision for their projects. He described these conversations as intense and passionate, sometimes involving disagreements, but always ending with Aunor expressing trust in his direction. This mutual respect, he said, defined their collaboration.

He also praised Aunor’s compassion and fairness on set. According to Lamangan, she always treated her colleagues kindly and stood up against any form of mistreatment, especially when it came to crew members who were often underpaid. She would often give financial assistance to the crew at the end of filming as a gesture of appreciation and support.
Lamangan revealed that he and renowned screenwriter Ricky Lee had been planning a film about Aunor’s life for some time. While the project was in its early stages and awaiting the right moment to move forward, Lamangan expressed deep regret that Aunor passed away before the film could be made. Despite her death, he confirmed that the plan to bring her story to the big screen will still push through.
“Meron kaming pinagusapan sanang importanteng pelikula na isusulat ng kaibigan naming si Ricky Lee- ang Nora Aunor Story, nakausap namin ang prodyuser naghihintay lamang ng tamang panahon. Sayang wala na si ate Guy pero itutuloy namin ;yon!” he said.

Nora Aunor, a cultural icon in the Philippines, passed away on April 16 at the age of 71. No details about the cause of her death have been disclosed. She began her entertainment career in the 1960s as a singer and became famous for her powerful “golden voice,” eventually transitioning into a highly respected actress whose legacy continues to inspire.
