TV5 reporter Gretchen Ho showed support for her fellow journalist, GMA reporter Mariz Umali.
To recall, Mariz received criticism from the supporters of former President Rodrigo Duterte because of her viral video in which she allegedly called former Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea “matanda,” Medialdea served during Duterte’s presidency.
For Duterte’s supporters, it was a disrespect. However, Mariz explained that what she said was “mata nya” and not “matanda.” In spite of her explanation, Mariz still received bashing, and even veteran broadcaster Mon Tulfo criticized her, but netizens slammed him for his inappropriate comment.
Amid the issue, Mariz shared a post about “hate” and encouraged positivity online. Behind the bashing from Duterte’s supporters, Mariz Umali received support from Gretchen Ho.
The TV5 reporter shared a video showing that Mariz was being called “bias” by the supporters of the former President. Gretchen’s caption was, “Biyas!!! Mabuhay ka! Mariz Umali Love and light.” The TV5 reporter referred to the word “bias” that was being pronounced by Duterte’s supporters as “biyas.”
Aside from Mariz, Gretchen was also called “biased” by the supporters of the former President. This also happened to Kapamilya reporter Zen Hernandez, who received comments that she was just using the people against the former President. These three female reporters received bashing from the Duterte supporters as they were accused of being biased.
On X, formerly Twitter, Gretchen Ho shared her correction to netizens’ comments saying that reporters are “bias.” She pointed out that it should be “biased.” “Bias is spelled with an -ed po. Biased. Thanks powh,” she wrote and added, “Otherwise… If it were a noun…”
