Anthony Jennings will star in his first international film
Kapamilya actor Anthony Jennings is the only choice for the lead role in the upcoming international film Mother Maybe.
Anthony had a humble beginning in showbiz. From doing supporting roles in teleseryes, he was given a big break when he played a second lead male character in the series Can’t Buy Me Love featuring the DonBelle loveteam of Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano.
In that series, his onscreen partnership with actress-singer Maris Racal surprisingly became a hit. They were first known as the SnoRene loveteam based on their characters’ names, Snoop and Irene.

Eventually, they got other projects as the MaThon tandem. However, the trajectory of their careers took a bumpy path when they were involved in a controversy. Fortunately, they were able to bounce back from that issue.
Anthony Jennings continued doing acting projects, and one of his upcoming stints is a movie set to be shown internationally. It is a horror drama-comedy film titled Mother Maybe, directed by Sonny Calvention, who co-wrote this with producer Arden Rod Condez.
In this movie, Anthony will give life to the character of Marco, who reunites with his estranged mother in Tokyo, Japan, when he is competing in a high-stakes Japanese game show.
Then, he will discover that his mother transforms into a monster at night, and this is where the real game begins. The director said that the viewers may think that they are watching a comedy movie, but it will “transition into something dramatic and serious.”
Anthony shared that when this project was pitched to him, he was surprised and thought that it was something unusual. However, he felt a certain feeling of excitement about doing this project.
Calvento also revealed that the only choice they had to portray the character of Marco was Anthony. “Pinaka-challenging sa amin isipan sino [ang lead]. Wala kami maisip na bagay until napanood ko siya sa ‘Can’t Buy Me Love,’ simula pa lang. Presented namin siya sa producers sa Singapore and Taiwan. Nagputol kami ng clips, super tuwang-tuwa sila,” the director shared.
Calvento added that it was a big factor that the role is fit for Anthony because of what he went through in life, and this became a preparation for him for the role.
