The Aquino family has this statement regarding the remarks of VP Sara Duterte about Ninoy Aquino Jr.
VP Sara Duterte likened the situation of former president Rodrigo Duterte to the fate of late Senator Ninoy Aquino Jr. if he comes back.
Former President Rodrigo Duterte is currently detained in The Hague. He is now in regular detention after he was removed from the hospital wing of the facility. His daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte, has been there ever since he was arrested, and they were extracting efforts to get him out of there.
“Magiging Ninoy Aquino Jr. ka”
These were the remarks of VP Sara when she shared that her father desires to return to the country. She was referring to the historical event when the late Senator Benigno ”Ninoy” Aquino Jr., was shot dead while making his way down from flight. He was a staunch critic of dictator former President Ferdinand Marcos.
Aquino was assassinated.
“Ninoy Aquino Jr. ka. Ang sinabi niya akin, sabi niya kung ganyan ang kapalaran ko then so be it basta lang mauwi ako sa Pilipinas,” the vice president recalled telling her father.
On Monday, the Aquino family released a statement following the remarks. The Ninoy & Cory Aquino Foundation posted the statement and it stated that what happened to the two powerful political figures is far different from each other.
The post said, “Kung pag-aaralan natin ang kasaysayan, makikita natin na ibang iba ang ginawa kay Ninoy sa pinagdadaanan ngayon ni dating Pang. Duterte.”
The Palace also reacted to the comparison, and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro reminded the public that Duterte once compared himself to Adolf Hitler, the dictator of Nazi Germany. The same stance was also voiced out, stressing that Aquino did not commit any crimes against humanity while the other was arrested because of the said charge.
Castro was referring to the statement made in 2016 when the former president expressed that he is like Hitler, who killed 6 million Jewish people during the Holocaust, as he would kill three million drug addicts.
