BELA PADILLA – Actress and writer Bela Padilla shared the valuable writing advice she received from Ricky Lee.
Actress and filmmaker Bela Padilla recently opened up about the valuable writing advice she received from award-winning writer Ricky Lee, particularly on how to combat writer’s block and maintain creative discipline.
In an interview on Cassy Legaspi’s Cassy’s Corner podcast, Bela shared that Ricky Lee emphasized the importance of writing every day, even when inspiration seems lacking.
“One of the things he said to fight writer’s block is to write every day,” Bela recalled. “Even if it’s gibberish, even if it’s not connected to the material you’re working on — just write something.”
Bela explained that this daily habit helps develop muscle memory and strengthens the discipline needed to stay productive as a writer. “Try and do something every day connected to what you want to do. If it’s writing, write every day, even if it’s not the material you’re working on at the moment,” she added.
The actress also shared that the process of finishing a script varies significantly. “I have scripts that I finished in two days. I have scripts that I finished on a flight. But I also have scripts that have been on standby for seven years, but I don’t force them because maybe the story is not meant to be told yet,” Bela said.
Bela credited Ricky’s screenwriting classes in 2017 as a pivotal moment in her creative journey. “I loved it. It was the best time of my life. I felt like I was in summer camp for adults, and I learned so much. I watched the best films,” she shared.
She expressed deep admiration for Ricky Lee’s generosity in sharing his knowledge with aspiring writers. “Sir Ricky is such a gracious and generous person. Siya ‘yung tipo ng tao na hindi nag-ge-gatekeep ng info kaya I love him. Idol ko siya. ‘Pag may alam siya ishe-share niya agad,” Bela said.
Bela Padilla has established herself as a talented writer, having penned several films, including Luck at First Sight (2017), Last Night (2017), and Apple of My Eye (2019). Ricky Lee’s guidance has clearly played a crucial role in shaping her success in the film industry.
