From Controversy to Coaching: John Amores’ Surprising New Career Move
JOHN AMORES – After stepping away from professional basketball, John Amores has started a new career.
John Amores has embarked on a new journey, shifting his focus to coaching aspiring basketball players. After stepping away from professional basketball, he established a basketball clinic in Laguna, transforming his passion for the sport into both a career and a source of personal fulfillment.
In a recent Facebook post, Amores announced the launch of his basketball camp, inviting young athletes to join him at the AA Basketball Camp, located at CLA Mall in Pagsanjan, Laguna. The camp provides various training programs, including fundamental skill development, scrimmages, agility exercises, and physical conditioning, all aimed at improving players’ skills and game awareness.

Amores’ transition to coaching follows a difficult period in his career. His professional license in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) was not renewed after a controversy that led to legal trouble. In September 2024, Amores and his brother were reportedly involved in a shooting incident in Lumban, Laguna. The altercation, which originated from a misunderstanding in a local basketball league, escalated into a heated confrontation, resulting in legal consequences. Amores allegedly chased down the individual he had a dispute with, leading to charges being filed against him.
Although Amores and his brother were able to post bail, they still face attempted homicide charges. By December 2024, the Games and Amusement Board (GAB) officially revoked his professional license, preventing him from playing in the PBA and other professional leagues.
