Human Arm Found Inside Shark Caught in Palawan
PALAWAN – Fishermen in Palawan were shocked after discovering a human arm inside a shark they had caught.
A shocking discovery unsettled the residents of Barangay Calandagan, Araceli, Palawan, when local fishermen found a human arm inside a shark they had caught and butchered. The incident, which took place on February 15, has raised numerous questions, prompting an ongoing investigation by authorities.
According to Pepito Katon Jr. of the Araceli Municipal Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the 20-kilogram shark was caught near Canaron Island. When the fishermen prepared the shark for sale, they were horrified to find a decomposing human arm inside its stomach.

Due to the advanced state of decomposition, forensic experts were unable to process the arm for fingerprinting, making it impossible to determine the victim’s identity at this time. Given the circumstances, the local residents decided to bury the arm and dispose of the shark.
Authorities were quick to clarify that the incident is not linked to the recent shark attack in Batangas, where two Russian nationals tragically lost their lives, and another individual lost an arm.
The Palawan Police Provincial Office confirmed that the shark had been caught approximately 26 miles from Barangay Calandagan using a fishing line. Upon gutting the fish, the fishermen discovered the severed arm, estimated to be about 12 inches in length. Recognizing the significance of their find, they immediately reported it to the local authorities.
On February 17, officials from the Araceli Municipal Police Station and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office arrived in the barangay to retrieve the human arm for further examination. However, the severity of decomposition meant that fingerprint analysis was no longer viable, leaving the case with more questions than answers.
The Barangay Council of Calandagan initially kept the incident under wraps to prevent unnecessary panic while allowing the authorities to manage the situation properly.
As of now, the investigation remains active, with authorities working to identify the possible victim and determine how the arm ended up inside the sharkâs stomach. The mysterious nature of the case has left residents both alarmed and eager for answers.
