Willie Revillame Confirms Candidacy: Running as an Independent
WILLIE REVILLAME – TV host and businessman Willie Revillame has announced his decision to run as an independent candidate.
Television host and senatorial aspirant Willie Revillame has declared that he is running as an independent candidate, distancing himself from any political party, including the administration-backed slate of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
In his first press conference since the campaign period began, Revillame emphasized that he does not belong to any political organization. “I don’t have a political party. I’m not affiliated with the government or PDP-Laban. I am an independent candidate and my party is the Filipino people, whom I will listen to,” he stated in Filipino.

The veteran television personality was previously approached by Duterte in 2021 to run for the Senate under the administration’s banner. However, contractual obligations with GMA Network prevented him from pursuing a political bid at that time. Now pushing through with his candidacy, Revillame has clarified that he will not be part of the nine-man slate recently endorsed by Duterte.
Despite his independent status, Revillame has yet to unveil detailed plans regarding his legislative agenda. His campaign so far has centered on his personal connection with the Filipino masses, a relationship built over decades as a television host known for charity-driven programs.
Revillame also remained tight-lipped about the potential impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte. “I will not comment on that right now because I’m not a senator yet and I don’t know the pieces of evidence to be weighed in,” he explained. “I need to see first the impeachment complaint in its entirety.”

His decision to maintain political independence marks a notable stance in an election season where major political affiliations and endorsements often dictate campaign dynamics. Whether this strategy will resonate with voters remains to be seen, but Revillame appears committed to charting his own path in his senatorial bid.
