Sofronio Vasquez shared some details about the US singing competition
First Asian The Voice US winner Sofronio Vasquez revealed Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez’s role in his journey in the American singing competition.
Sofronio’s journey to success was an inspiring story. Before being hailed as a champion, he went through a lot of rejections. Previously, he shared that he auditioned in The Voice Philippines but no chair turned.
Then, several times, he auditioned for It’s Showtime‘s Tawag ng Tanghalan, and the farthest he reached was the semi-finals.
Eventually, he was able to find a job in the US and that was when he saw an announcement for The Voice audition. Despite the rejections in the past and failures that he had to face, Sofronio Vasquez did not lose the flicker in his heart to pursue his dream of a career in the music industry.
In a recent interview on Toni Talks, Ultimate Multimedia Star Toni Gonzaga’s YouTube talk show, Sofronio shared that there were a lot of contestants who sounded better than him.
“Tapos kumukulot nang kumukulot, sabi ko, ‘hindi ganyan ang kulot ko ah,” he shared referring to how other contestants to their riffs in a song. He admitted that he was trying to copy that style but he realized that what he had in his voice was different.
With this, he said that the best thing to do was follow his formula which might work. “Gagawin ko ‘tong OPM, ire-Regine ko to lahat,” Sofronio shared. What he meant was that his modulation was copied from the style and pattern of how Regine Velasquez would sing a song.
“Regine ‘yun lahat,” he said, adding that he studied the Asia’s Songbird’s songs and connected what could apply to his contest piece.
When Toni asked him about his ASAP performance with Regine, Sofronio Vasquez admitted that he was shaking and it amazed him that the seasoned singer knew him. He also shared that back when they were in Tawag ng Tanghalan, he wished to perform on the ASAP stage but he was just chosen to perform for the show’s online platform back then.
