Bea Alonzo recently completed her groundbreaking performance in GMA 7’s murder-mystery series Widows’ War. In this primetime drama, she portrayed Sam Castillo-Palacios, a determined woman on a quest to uncover the truth about her father’s murder. The role marked a significant shift from Bea’s usual romantic lead characters, highlighting her range and versatility as an actress.
In an interview during GMA Regional TV’s Sinulog activities in Cebu City, Bea reflected on the challenges and insights she gained from playing a character with no romantic subplot. “When I take on a role, you don’t always agree with the character, but you need to make it work,” she explained, emphasizing the importance of understanding and believing in her character’s motivations to deliver a compelling portrayal.
Playing Sam proved to be an eye-opening experience for Bea. The character’s relentless pursuit of the truth often led to unforeseen consequences, which provided Bea with valuable insights. “What I realized from this series is that sometimes, it’s better to focus on being a good person than being right,” she shared.
Sam’s unyielding determination to solve her father’s murder caused harm and misfortune along the way. Reflecting on this, Bea remarked, “There’s nothing wrong with seeking the truth, but sometimes it’s better to trust the universe or God to reveal it at the right time.” This profound realization left a lasting impact on her, both as an actress and as an individual.
Widows’ War also marked Bea’s debut in the murder-mystery genre, a deliberate choice to move away from her signature romantic roles. “It was a conscious decision to explore something different,” she noted. Joining a talented ensemble cast that included Carla Abellana, Timmy Cruz, and Jean Garcia, Bea embraced the challenges of the genre and described it as a “good decision” that broadened her horizons.
