Vic Sotto Files Case Against Pepsi Paloma Movie Director Darryl Yap

Vic Sotto formally takes legal action against Darryl Yap

Eat Bulaga host Vic Sotto filed a complaint against director Darryl Yap who is behind the Pepsi Paloma movie.

The veteran comedian-hosts arrived at the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court (RTC) on January 9 with his wife actress Pauleen Luna. Press people and content creators were already waiting for him.

Vic’s complaint was prompted by the controversial movie that Direk Darryl announced late last year. The director has been gaining attention from the online community from the time he announced the movie until the first teaser was released.

The less-than-a-minute teaser became controversial as it mentioned Vic Sotto. Actress Gina Alajar, portraying Charito Solis in the movie, asked young actress Rhed Bustamante, portraying Pepsi Paloma, if Vic really r@ped her.

This issue came from the 80s controversy when Pepsi Paloma filed a r@pe case against Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon, and Richie D’Horsie. Direk Darryl was criticized online because of this, especially those who are fans of Bossing and TVJ.

On January 8, reports surfaced that Vic would file a complaint against the 38-year-old director. Direk Darryl even shared a screenshot of a media advisory telling press people to cover the filing of the case.

Based on the report from News5, Vic filed 19 counts of cyber libel against Direk Darryl for mentioning his name in the Pepsi Paloma move teaser.

Atty. Buko dela Cruz, Vic’s legal counsel, was asked why it was 19 counts of libel. The lawyer said that it was because that was the number of times when the director posted or expressed “mapanirang imputation.”

He also said that there would be a separate case that will be filed against those who shared Direk Darryl’s post. “Merong hiwalay na kaso para doon, yun po yung writ of habeas data na nauna na naming i-file,” Atty. Dela Cruz said.
