Jinggoy Estrada is not in favor of materials released by Vivamax
Senator Jinggoy Estrada slammed VMX, formerly known as the video streaming platform Vivamax for its alleged “inappropriate” content.
Before becoming a politician, Jinggoy was already in the entertainment industry and he did various movies and TV shows. The show business is still one of his concerns now that he is a senator.
In his privilege speech delivered during the Senate’s Monday plenary session, based on the article in Inquirer, Jinggoy called out VMX as for him, the streaming platform is releasing content that does not mirror Filipino values.
Sen. Jinggoy Estrada said that Vivamax has been “inundating the digital space with films and shows filled with graphic, s=xual, and exploitative material.”
He also pointed out that the Philippines is a “nation deeply rooted in moral values, family traditions, and respect for human dignity.” Even though he acknowledges that the entertainment industry has “artistic freedom” and “creative expression,” it is also important to set boundaries.
The Senator also said that the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board called out the attention of Vivamax but the streaming platform has not complied.
In a report from ABS-CBN, MTRCB chairperson Lala Sotto said that “online curated content does not fall within the MTRCB’s mandate,” as of now.
She said that this is the reason why they are grateful that the Senate supports the amendment to the MTRCB charter for the expansion of their scope.
Chair Sotto also said that they have the same concern that was raised by Sen. Jinggoy Estrada to protect the viewers, especially the children in this digital age.
“As one of its proactive steps, the MTRCB called the attention of subscription-based platforms and encouraged them to observe our standards,” she said, adding that the Board is doing its best even though there are still limitations in its scope.
