Carlo Aquino said that he can relate to his character in his new movie
Kapamilya actor Carlo Aquino talked about playing a “has-been” actor in his new film Crosspoint.
Carlos has portrayed different characters on the big screen which showed his versatility in acting. For his new movie, directed by Donie Ordiales, Carlo’s character Manuel Hidalgo is an actor whose popularity has faded.
In an interview with The Philippine Star, the actor shared why he and his character have something in common. His character has become a washed-up actor and he opted to go to Japan to find a job in order to provide for his family.
Carlo Aquino said that this happened to him during his teenage years. He and Manuel went through the same scenario but it happened to him at a younger age. With this, he said that he was somehow Manuel.
“Manuel flew to Japan to work for his family, to provide for them. And that’s also what I’m doing for my family. So, an actor na hindi na sikat (who’s no longer famous), I’ve gone through all of that, so it’s not that hard for me (to portray),” he shared.
The actor recalled that there was a time when he was feeling desperate also when it came to his career and this almost pushed him to go to the US to pursue another career.
He left ABS-CBN in 2007 and he transferred. A few years later, projects were seldom coming in. Back then, most of his projects were indie so the income was lesser than before. He said that it was a good thing that he did not push through with that plan because he was still finishing an indie project.
Eventually, Carlo was able to return to ABS-CBN around 2012 and his career became stable again. “‘Yun ‘yung sinasabi ko na kahit feeling mo minsan lugmok na lugmok ka na, iikot eh,” the actor said.
Carlo Aquino is also thankful that he gave time thinking about this matter and he became patient because this had a good result for his career.
