Emman Atienza reacted to the bashing she received
Social media personality Emman Atienza, the daughter of seasoned Kapuso host Kim Atienza, released a statement after she received bashing because of her viral video.
The said video was posted on Emman’s TikTok page. She was having a “guess the bill” game with her friends in an expensive restaurant. The social media personality wrote in the caption of her video that whoever guessed it right would pay for their meal. Their meal costs over Php 123,000.
This did not sit well with many netizens. They criticized Emman for allegedly being a “spoiled brat” and for some other reasons.
After this video blew up on social media, Emman Atienza created another TikTok video answering the bashing she recently received.
She clarified that the video was taken during her friend’s birthday and that the friend’s company offered to pay their bills. Kuya Kim’s daughter also stressed that if ever she or her friend paid that bill, it was their money and it was their freedom.
Then, Emman shared a post from the digital news site RepublicAsia. Apparently, this post is no longer available.
The social media personality pointed out the last slide that RepublicAsia shared. It said, “Check your privilege.” Emman said that she has been vocal about the privileges she has and the fact that she is a “nepo baby.”
She also read the digital news site’s statement about this issue: “Given that only a small portion of Filipinos fall under one percent, these people should be redirecting this wealth to those most in need of it.”
For Emman, this is “insanely bizarre.” She pointed out that this is not the reality that happens when a person has money or someone who just won the lottery.
After that, Emman showed the next slide from the digital news site featuring actress Nadine Lustre. The post stated that Nadine attended the Bvlgari Tubogas launch. “If you’re going to hate on me for being rich, you need to do the same for everyone,” Emman said.
Kuya Kim’s daughter pointed out that celebrities like Nadine, not just in the Philippines but also abroad, are earning and spending a lot more than what she or her friends spend. She said that the digital news site should be consistent if it was to be an activist for a certain advocacy.
Emman also said that she bet, these celebrities are not redirecting their wealth. She also cited what she said in a comment that she is not responsible for the wealth disparity in the Philippines.
