Paolo Contis ‘Dear Satan’ Movie, MTRCB Chair Lala Sotto Says “I’m offended”

Paolo Contis has this controversial movie

Kapuso actor Paolo Contis is the lead star in the movie Dear Satan and this received a negative comment from Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) chair Lala Sotto.

Paolo has done different kinds of movie projects in his entire career. From family-oriented themes, especially when he was still a child star, to drama, rom-com, horror, and comedy, the actor has showcased his acting prowess in these.

His recent movie project became controversial for its title and the concept features. In the movie, Paolo played the role of Satan who received a letter, that was supposed to be for Santa Claus, from a young girl.

The film features the concept of “good versus bad”. After the trailer was released, this was condemned by many Christian groups. In a statement, Mavx Productions said that the title of the movie will be changed. The production company also apologized if this has offended people.

In an article in Inquirer, MTRCB Chair Lala Sotto also expressed that she was offended by the movie. Dear Satan received an X-rating from the board. This means that this is not approved for public viewing.

Sotto said that the movie was found to be violative of Presidential Decree (PD) No. 1986. She said that after watching the movie, she felt offended because of the story which was contradicting her religious belief.

“I have seen the film. I joined the board. I am offended as a Christian. It is not demonic, but it has a different depiction of Satan becoming good. But Satan will never ever be good,” Sotto said.

Director Jose Reyes, who is also the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) chairperson, said that the script was part of a Movie Workers’ Welfare Foundation (Mowelfund) workshop script.

The young girl in the movie was supposed to send her letter to Santa Claus but she misspelled it to “Satan.” So, Satan came to life and went to the little girl and was humanized by the little girl in the process,” the veteran filmmaker explained.
