GMA Network answered this claim made by Gerald Santos
Singer-actor Gerald Santos claimed that after he complained about the alleged abuse he received from a musical director, he was not given projects and eventually was banned from GMA’s entertainment shows.
Gerald finally had the courage to speak about what happened to him 19 years ago. He shared that when he was just 15 years old and was still a contestant in the Kapuso defunct singing competition Pinoy Pop Superstar, a musical director r@ped him.
He said that he filed a complaint to the management. However, Gerald said that after his revelation, projects became scarce and eventually he was released by the network.
GMA Network responded to Gerald Santos’s statement. The network stressed that it was the singer-actor who asked to be released. However, Gerald pointed out that he only asked for that because the network was not giving him any projects. The media company also stressed that it terminated the musical director who was accused of abusing Gerald.
Based on the article in PEP, the management of the Kapuso network also denied Gerald’s claim that he was “pinag-initan” and “na-ban” after what happened.
“Walang katotohanan ang sabihing pinag-initan si Gerald Santos sa loob ng Network, pati ang sinasabi niyang paghaharang ng mga supposedly proyekto niya,” the network stated.
GMA also pointed out that if Gerald was “napag-initan” and the person who abused him was that powerful in the network, then, he should not have won the competition. The network also stressed that Gerald was given many projects after he won.
“We cast based on merit and performance,” GMA stressed, adding that the person that Gerald Santos was referring to had no power in casting in the show he was in at that time. The network also said that the person had no influence over those assigned to casting in other shows on GMA.
