Sen. Chiz said that in the US, they only have President’s Day in which they would celebrate all the remarkable presidents but in the Philippines, we have Araw ng Kagitingan, National Heroes’ Day, and there were days allotted for specific heroes.

The lawmaker said that they now have a process regarding the holidays in the Philippines. This statement from the Senate President did not sit well with some Filipinos. They criticized Sen. Chiz on social media. These netizens stressed that instead of the “bawas” in holidays, the salaries of lawmakers should be diminished. For some, the issue here is not the competitiveness of Pinoys because Pinoys are known to be hardworking people.

In a recent social media live stream, Heart Evangelista defended what her husband said. The Kapuso stressed that it was not true that Sen. Chiz that holidays are “mababawasan.”

Hindi po mababawasan ang holiday, hindi lang siya madadagdagan,” she said. Then, the Senate President pointed out that the countries in the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), have an average of 16 to 18 holidays but the Philippines has 25.

He also said that according to the Senate policy, these holidays in the Philippines will not exceed 25 anymore.

So, ang policy po ng Senado, huwag na nating dagdagan yung 25 na yun, dahil masyado na tayong nagiging hindi competitive sa mga katabi nating bansa,” the Senate President said.
