HIDILYN DIAZ – Pioneer Filipina Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz has a touching message for EJ Obiena who finished in 4th place at the Olympics.
Ernest John “EJ” Obiena is a Filipino pole vaulter who has achieved international acclaim for his accomplishments in athletics. Born on November 17, 1995, Obiena has become one of Asia’s top pole vaulters.
In the 2024 Paris Olympics, EJ finished fourth in the men’s pole vault final. After missing out on an Olympic medal, the Filipino athlete shared an emotional post on social media, expressing his feelings about finishing in fourth place.
Despite the disappointment, EJ Obiena expressed gratitude to his fellow Filipinos for their support and wrote an optimistic message, celebrating Carlos Yulo’s double-gold victory.
The Olympian couldn’t hold back his tears during an interview after failing to secure a medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Though happy for his fellow athletes, he couldn’t hide his pain and apologized to the Filipino people for his performance in the pole vault event.
In his recent interview and post, EJ Obiena expressed heartbreak over missing out on a podium spot and an Olympic medal. Weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, the first Filipino to win an Olympic gold medal, took to social media to show her appreciation for EJ’s sacrifices and efforts.
In a heartfelt Instagram Story, Hidilyn thanked the pole vaulter for giving his best for the Philippines, sharing a photo of her husband, Julius Naranjo, watching EJ in the finals.
“Thank you @ernestobienapy for giving your best for the Philippines,” Hidilyn wrote.
