Carlos Yulo Reveals Why He Brings Tupperware to 2024 Paris Olympics
CARLOS YULO – Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo revealed why he brings tupperwear to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Olympics in Paris have captured the attention of Filipino sports fans, and the competition has given rise to numerous memes, particularly showcasing our own gymnast, Carlos Yulo.
With an overall score of 83.032, the Filipino Olympian placed 12th in the all-around competition. He competed twice. This was the first of his three medal chances at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, which took place at the Bercy Arena.
After making a bad landing on the pommel horse, the 24-year-old gymnast had a difficult beginning, receiving just 11.900 points. He bounced back immediately, though, finishing third behind Zhang Boheng of China and Joe Fraser of Great Britain with a score of 13.933 on the rings apparatus. Yulo finished his campaign with a floor workout score of 14.333.
Japan’s Oka Shinnosuke won the gold medal with 86.832 points, while Tokyo 2020 gold medalist Zhang Boheng of China took silver with 86.599 points.
Meanwhile, an X user, @ydm_gms, noticed that Carlos Yulo used a tupperware to store his chalk powder instead of a plastic bag. One netizen humorously commented, “Isauli mo kay nanay yan, Caloy, walang Olympian Olympian dito.”
Another remarked, “Tell me you’re Pinoy without telling me you’re Pinoy.” Others praised his container choice as eco-friendly, with one user saying, “Jokes aside, this is an eco-friendly move and I’m glad he did it.”
In an interview with One Sports, Carlos Yulo explained that using tupperware became a habit while training in Japan. He said, “Every time na pupunta sa ibang competition, may dala po talaga kaming tupperware. ‘Yung sa kanila nga, mas malaki pa po, eh. ‘Yung sa akin po kasi mag-isa lang ako, so ‘di ko kailangan ng malaking tupperware. ‘Yung handy lang saka madaling dalhin.”
The House of Representatives declared shortly after Yulo’s gold medal win that it would give him P3 million in recognition of his outstanding accomplishment. The head of the House appropriations panel, Rep. Elizaldy Co., confirmed this.
