Mayor Alice Guo is still in the Philippines Says DOJ Assistant Secretary Jose Dominic Clavano IV

ALICE GUO – Department of Justice (DOJ) Assistant Secretary Jose Dominic Clavano IV said Bamban Mayor Alice Guo is still in the Philippines.

Suspended Bamban Mayor Alice Guo remains in the Philippines, according to Department of Justice (DOJ) Assistant Secretary Jose Dominic Clavano IV.

Based on a report from Inquirer, during a Kapihan session with reporters, Clavano mentioned that information from other agencies confirms that Guo has not left the country. “May information mula pa sa ibang mga ahensya na nandito pa siya sa Pilipinas,” he said.

In a Senate hearing on July 29, National Bureau of Investigation Assistant Director Angelito Magno reported sightings of Guo in Bulacan. However, he clarified that these sightings occurred before the Senate issued an arrest order against her on July 11.

The Senate issued an arrest order for Guo and seven others after they failed to attend the July 10 hearing, despite receiving due notices from the committee on women investigating illegal Philippine offshore gaming operators (Pogos).

Guo is under investigation for her alleged involvement with a raided Pogo in Bamban, Tarlac. Additionally, questions about her citizenship arose during a Senate inquiry after Sen. Risa Hontiveros noted that her birth was only registered in 2013, 17 years after her supposed birth year of 1986.

In a previous article, Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra spoke about the two cases on who may replace Mayor Guo if she’s ousted. He said that Mayor Guo is a Chinese national. If proven, she could be removed from office for a serious act of dishonesty. According to the 1987 Philippine Constitution, election candidates are required to be Filipino citizens.
