Alden is one of the lead stars in the Kapuso primetime series that depicts the sufferings of Filipinos during the Japanese occupation.

In a recent interview, based on the article Inquirer, Alden Richards said that doing Pulang Araw was an emotional experience for him but also disturbing, especially when realizing the sufferings that Filipinos experienced back then.

He said that as part of being an actor, he has a way of processing his character. However, when it comes to his Eduardo dela Cruz character in this series, it is heavier since it has a reality aspect, as there were people who suffered that kind of maltreatment also.

Alden said that he knows how to separate his character from reality but it is different in this project. “We were in a dungeon that’s hot and filled with smoke, and we’re being tortured by the Japanese. It’s something I never knew I’d experience,” the actor said.

Alden also said that this project is special. During their story conference, they were told that the freedom that Filipinos now have was because of the hellish experience that Filipinos had to go through under the Japanese occupation.

On the other hand, the actor highlighted that amid that difficult time, Filipinos were still clinging to their happiness as “bodabil”, derived from vaudeville, was an active industry to give entertainment to everyone.

Alden Richards also revealed that this project was 10 years in the making, as GMA executive Annette Gozon Valdes told him. The series has been part of the Kapuso archive for a long time. Many changes happened in the story since then. He is thankful that he has been considered to be part of this project ever since.
