Karen Davila Clarifies “Nagbukas ng pinto” Statement About BINI

Karen Davila answered the issue that was prompted by her statement on TV Patrol

Kapamilya veteran broadcaster Karen Davila clarified her statement that Nation’s Girl Group BINI was the one who “nagbukas ng pinto” for the P-Pop to be known internationally.

Karen has been one of the anchors of ABS-CBN’s primetime news program TV Patrol for many years now. It is a part of the news program that anchors will have a banter before their usual closing spiel.

Karen talked about BINI’s success status in a recent episode of the Kapamilya news program. The girl group, which is composed of Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, Jhoanna, and Sheena, is managed by ABS-CBN.

Karen Davila said that K-pop is very popular around the globe and it is a good thing that BINI will open the door for the P-Pop. “Pag sumikat sila, sisikat din ang ibang Pilipino,” the veteran broadcaster said.

This did not sit well with A’tin, the fans of P-Pop Kings SB19. The quintet, composed of Josh, Pablo, Stell, Ken, and Justin, debuted in 2018 and fans have been reiterating on social media, especially on X, formerly Twitter, that they are the ones who “paved the way” for P-Pop.

A’tin called out Karen as they argued that it was SB19 who opened the door for other P-Pop groups after them to be widely known. However, Blooms, fans of BINI retaliated and defended what Karen said about the Nation’s Girl Group and this caused a commotion on X between the two fandoms.

On July 26, Karen finally addressed this issue. She reposted the clip that went viral featuring her “nagbukas ng pinto” statement about BINI.

The veteran broadcaster clarified that “SB19 first opened the doors for PPOP internationally and made history!” She also stressed that “BINI is carving their own – being the first all girl group to hit it big.”

Karen said that she should have been more specific. The TV Patrol anchor stressed that both P-Pop groups are making the country proud. “And may you both open more doors for aspiring local artists,” she added.
