Interested in Pfizer’s once-a-day weight-loss pill?
PFIZER – Here’s what we know so far about Pfizer’s once-a-day weight-loss pill, Danuglipron.
Many drugs claim to help you achieve a slimmer figure, but they often fall short of expectations. Fortunately, Pfizer appears to be close to developing a genuinely effective weight-loss pill.
According to The Telegraph, the US pharmaceutical company will begin testing different doses of its experimental drug later this year.
Mikael Dolsten, Pfizer’s outgoing chief scientific officer and president of research and development, stated that it will “address the present and persistent medical needs of people living with obesity.”
Pfizer’s official website identifies this new weight-loss drug as Danuglipron. It is designed for oral administration but has not yet been approved by any health authorities.
Danuglipron is an investigational medicine known as a GLP-1 receptor agonist, which helps maintain healthy blood sugar levels by increasing insulin production.
Additionally, Danuglipron slows digestion and enhances the feeling of fullness after eating, potentially aiding in weight loss.
Currently, Pfizer is conducting a randomized study to evaluate the drug’s safety and effectiveness.
As of now, the weight loss pill has shown promising results. Mikael Dolsten, MD, PhD, Chief Scientific Officer and President of Pfizer Research and Development, made the following statement about Danuglipron:
“Obesity is a key therapeutic area for Pfizer, and the company has a robust pipeline of three clinical and several pre-clinical candidates.”
“The most advanced of them, Danuglipron, has demonstrated good efficacy in a twice-daily formulation, and we believe a once-daily formulation has the potential to have a competitive profile in the oral GLP-1 space.”
According to the report, until the weight-loss pill becomes available in pharmacies, Ozempic will likely stay the preferred option.
According to The New York Times, Ozempic is a diabetes medication approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Later, the FDA approved Wegovy, a drug with a higher dose of Ozempic’s active ingredient. Wegovy gained public attention when Elon Musk attributed his new physique to it.
