Maris Racal is all-out support for the LGBTQA+ community
Kapamilya actress-singer Maris Racal has this answer when asked about being called a “gay icon.”
Maris has come a long way since she joined the Kapamilya reality show Pinoy Big Brother. She is now one of the most in-demand female celebrities of her generation. She has done different projects on TV and movies and showcased her musicality in her songs.
Her fandom has grown over the years. Many of her fans belong to the LGBTQA+ community. In a recent interview, based on the article in Bandera, Maris was asked to react to being called a “gay icon.”
The actress-singer recalled the time when she performed at O Bar, which is an iconic venue for drag shows and exciting events. Maris Racal shared that it has been her “fantasy” to perform at the said venue with a full production.
She admitted that she did not expect that she would reach the level of being called a gay icon. Maris said that she has been very supportive of the community.
The Kapamilya star shared that when she started in showbiz, she was really a shy person. Most of the time, she was just quiet and she did not know how to say no. She would just always “yes” and she could not express who she really was.
However, she said that she has evolved. During the pandemic, Maris shared that she was drawn into watching RuPaul’s Drag Race and Lady Gaga’s music videos. She also said that she has been a fan of America’s Next Top Model since she was a young girl.
Maris is also amazed by the stories of the drag queens. She said that more than just being performers, she loves the story behind them and the struggles they went through in their lives.
The actress-singer said that she loves the community because they are very welcoming. Reacting to being called a gay icon, Maris Racal said, “I love the LGBTQIA+ community. I love the gays, sobra. Hindi ko pa naman siguro deserve yung gay icon. Ha-hahahaha! Nahihiya ako! Thankful lang ako.”
Meanwhile, Maris recently confirmed that she and Rico Blanco broke up.
