Chino Trinidad died at the age of 56

Veteran sports journalist Chino Trinidad passed away at the age of 56 and this was confirmed by his daughter Floresse Trinidad.

Manolo “Chino” Trinidad was known as a play-by-play commentator in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) coverage by Vintage Television. He was one of the prominent personalities in the world of sports in the Philippines.

Previously, he worked in GMA Sports as a correspondent and sports analyst. In 2023, he revealed the reason why he left the Kapuso network after 23 years. He lamented the fact that after his stint in GMA, his FIBA accreditation was also revoked.

He was granted a special award for Meritorious Conduct at the Dangal ng Maharlika Awards, back in 2019. Chino also a great job in promoting and spreading awareness about arnis and Filipino martial arts.

His absence in the industry will truly be missed. A sad news was confirmed by Chino Trinidad’s daughter just recently. Based on the report from GMA News Online, Floresse confirmed through an SMS that her father died on the night of July 13, 2024.

The veteran sports journalist passed away due to a heart attack. It was said that he was on the way to a supposed meeting in Newport World Resorts with Efren “Bata” Reyes and other personalities on Saturday night when this heartbreaking incident happened.

Chino Trinidad was immediately rushed to San Juan de Dios Hospital where he died. He was honored by his children as someone who is very passionate when it comes to his job as a member of media and sports community.

Chino was also highlighted for his storytelling and always sharing the greatness of Filipinos. He was also honored as a loving husband and a supportive father.

As of this writing, the family of the veteran sports journalist has not released yet further details, including the wake schedule.
